CTSD begins with the human being because every institutional, technological, and political question eventually returns to the subject who understands, chooses, acts, and carries responsibility.
02Not an isolated individual
The person is individual, but never detached from relations, language, institutions, economy, technology, and history. Self-determination is therefore not isolation; it is the capacity to remain a subject within these environments.
03Self-determination as capacity
Self-determination is a developing capacity: self-knowledge, orientation, decision, action, and responsibility. It can be strengthened or weakened by the conditions around the person.
04The criterion of a civilizational actor
A civilizational actor is not only someone who adapts to existing systems. It is a person capable of co-authoring relations, institutions, technologies, and the long-term public future.
